If your business uses a Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system to protect your operatives from hazardous substances you have an obligation to carry out the following:

  • A thorough testing and examination of your LEV system at least every 14 months
  • Any repairs or remedial works as a result of the inspection
  • Regular maintenance and cleaning to ensure that the system operates at it's optimum level.

LEV describes systems that include extract ventilation that prevent people in the workplace from inhaling substances which may be hazardous to their health. Examples
of such systems include dust extraction systems, weld fume systems, solder extract systems, fume cabinets, kitchen extract systems and vehicle exhaust systems. These are required to comply with COSHH regulations which helps you keep your LEV systems operating to their design specifications.
